Thank you, RhyeRhye, you are a Radio extraordinaire. Thank you for making my blog so much better!! 6:09:24 PM | I was wallowing in Radio hinterlands, trying my best with my extremely limited knowledge. Rhye answered my post on the Userland discussion board, and then went above and beyond: she answered email after email of questions, gave me specific directions and even more specific code, taught me what CSS is and how much more control I have over this beast than I ever thought I did. I can't thank you enough. |

No news to report...right?Hey, did you know that 26 soldiers have died this month in Iraq? And that one of them was an 18-year old young woman fresh out of high school? 7:47:36 AM | Of course you didn't. Because the war's over, peace and democracy have come to Iraq, and the insurgents, a group of high school thugs, have retreated to their caves. (It's high time you liberals started praising the neocons as they deserve to be praised.) Therefore, there is no news to report. It's so simple! Perhaps the media is trying to dismiss the incessant neocon meme that the media is "negative" about Iraq and not presenting any of the "positive" developments by simply ignoring the war all together. Or perhaps they are like Bill Maher and want to believe so badly they will ignore all evidence that counters their hopes. I hope the war is over soon, but I know that it's not yet. Every day I look at icasualties.org, the only web source that brings together articles from around the world about the wars (including DoD announcements), and the news is never good. Nobody else is bringing these stories together. The NY Times, the Washington Post, the LA Times, etc etc. Look on their sites' front pages; pick up a print copy and look until your fingers turn grey from the ink. In yesterday's NY Times' print edition, a two-inch by two-inch story about four soldiers killed over the weekend was stuck in the middle of page A4. This is how meaningless this war has become. Iraq has become an afterthought. Afghanistan is not even that. Clearly the death of soldiers and Iraqis is not news. No news to report, right? Somehow it makes sense now that we live in a culture of death. |
I've had it with bigotryIt's ridiculous that in the year 2005 students still have to declare their sexualities
(or their support for those of sexualities different than their own) in the face of
overt discrimination. It's ridiculous, too, that this declaration is
met by counter-declarations based on bigotry and hate. The Ten Commandments apparently are against gays. (Who knew?) I knew that the Christian god that a lot of people worship in this country was Republican and therefore full of hate (the General told me), but I had not idea that he also taught sexuality was a belief. 7:28:13 AM | I'm happy to read that there are straight students who will be wearing "Gay? Fine By Me" tees in support of their friends at Homewood-Flossmoor. I've always thought that straight people need to support their gay friends through direct action. I had an idea for a bumper sticker: Another Straight Family for Gay Marriage. Because we're another straight family for gay marriage!!! It's only seven in the morning and already the outrage begins. It's going to be a long day. |
