Leadership, anyone?I'm sitting here watching CNN and Anderson Cooper's coverage of the
stem cell research debate in the house. He just quoted from a
CNN/Gallup poll that showed 53% of Americans want fewer restrictions on
research. Follow the polls, follow the polls. It's maddening!!! 6:32:56 PM | I know that our senators and representatives are just that, our "representatives." But aren't they also our leaders? Doesn't that mean they should lead? One of the things that pissed me off about Kerry was his reluctance to lead on a number of issues; instead he followed the polls like his republican yahoo opponent. Just recently he talked about how Massachusetts should get rid of their gay marriage ruling because gay marriage is "wrong." Honestly, I don't think Kerry thinks it's "wrong." My guess he thinks it's okay, probably even that it's nobody's business when two consenting adults want to tie the knot. But no. It's not politically expeditious to be pro gay marriage. (What an understatement...). This is the perfect example of an issue that is crying out for leadership. Imagine a politician, say Kerry, giving a cogent argument about gay marriage in an effort to change our opinions. What a radical idea these days! But not a new one...
