A rather light post...![]() Things are going as expected here. My friend is still in the hospital -- he's beaten the infection, but the antibiotics have left him with colitis and he's still not able to accept visitors (except his wife, thank goodness). I'm having a wonderful time with his wife and their dog Inu, an Akita/Golden pound dog that is one of the most amazing dogs I've ever known. She is athletic and giant and gentle and incredibly smart. A joy. (The picture above is of S and Inu down in Baja several years ago. He used to take her running at the base of a burned out volcano and along dirt roads that lead to the ocean.) I will try to post something more substantial this week, but meanwhile I wanted to point the way to a number of interesting internet reads: Doc's beautiful "Lady Litany"; Dick Jones' on global warming and capitalism (and make sure you check out the link to James Wolcott in the comments); Jen's essay on her husband's absence, a thunderstorm, and their first year of marriage; Agitprop travels through the "postmodern landscape"; Heretik's Baron Von Boltonstein; Snag on that 31%; a reminder that every day more are lost; and a picture of the Lagoon Nebula, a time-stop witness of the simultaneous death and birth of stars 5,000 years ago. |
