Lives blown apart and the lessons of warAgain, not much time to write, but I hope to post later today. 10:24:13 AM | Meanwhile, check these out: Zach writes about the lessons of war; Heretik on conscience by the numbers; Bob Herbert on lives blown apart. Heretik, I'll post the poem from last night later today, after I have a chance to work on the edits the poetry ladies recommended to me. They're so wonderful! How I miss them when I'm in Chicago! |
Help Find Muaz HaffarA commenter on my blog alerted me that one of Tombol Malik's accused
killers has fled and is now a fugitive. They have a a website devoted
to finding this man: Find Muaz Haffar. I wrote about Malik's murder here and here. 9:48:23 AM | Haffar's family claims he and his friend killed Malik in self-defense, and that his injuries prove this. I'm guessing, though, that the prosecution is pointing out that Haffar's friend was bleeding already because of an earlier fight when Malik and his friend came upon them, and therefore his injuries could have come from that earlier fight. But it's no matter, in my opinion. However the fight came about, in the end Haffar and his friend killed Malik with their own hands, and for that they should take responsibility and face the consequences. Instead, though, Haffar has fled. His friend is still in jail and his bond has been revoked. I will try to keep up with this story as I can and post about it here. Hopefully Haffar will be caught and will be tried. He should be given a fair trial, but that will be harder for him now because he has fled. So many lives have been ruined by this one act of unchecked agression. |
