"For good times, and bad times, I'll be on your side forever more. That's what friends are for."
-John Keats, 1985
Finally, some good news.
It's just wonderful to see that the Bush administration puts such a high value on friendship. As an institution, friendship has been under siege lo these many years. What with the gangs and drug dealers and terrorists(none of whom are too friendly) and the encroachment of the homosexual agenda (which claims it can make two men "more than friends."), things get tougher for friendship every day. Did you know that almost 60% of friendships wind up drifting apart? That is a travesty. Friendship between two people is one of the basic building blocks of our society.
So it comes as a welcome sight to see Bush keeping the concept alive. He sees his friends suddenly unemployed, what does he do? He gives them as much money as they need. Not as LOANS, mind you. Usury is far from our fearless leader's heart. He gives it away, never thinking about himself. That's the kind of selflessness that pulses in the heart of the New Testament.
Where does this money come from? I don't know, I don't care, and I don't know. I'm sure the nattering nabobs of the loony left will jump all over him, calling him corrupt or cronyistic. I'm sure they'll note that the organization is run by Bush's campaign manager, that the company was created by men who put the Iraq war together and now stand to profit heavily from the peace. I think that's just cynical.
Who would that money go to if it just sat around, I ask you? A bunch of homeless people and sick veterans? That sounds all well and good, but that's just the kind of commie altruism that's helped bring the idea of friendship to the low point it's at today.
Bitter liberals may call it profiteering, But I like to think of it this way: When you're President George W. Bush, your friends will never be in need.
