A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail by Bill Bryson
When I was young (45) I wanted to walk the whole Appalachian Trail from Ga. To Main. I was spending the summers in North Carolina and hiking a lot of trails. I hiked eleven miles on the Mt Rogers area in Va. And carried peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for strength. It was a lot of fun
I will say something nice about my ex-husband, he liked hiking also and we spent many hours going up hill and down. That and the fact that he could fix anything kept me in a relationship that I should have ended before it stared.
Anyway I read the above book and I was there. Putting one foot in front of the other and cursing my idea of hiking. I would then go out and hike again.
I feel that if one has a backpack full of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and some water it would be a snap.
RULE OF HIKING THE TRAIL DO NOT CARRY A LOT OF STUFF.
There are drop off areas to towns for repair of self so carry some money.
I am 68 now and have not found anyone who I could stand to be with and hike the trails.
To me this book is very funny. It is about two fat guys and their adventures on the Trail.

HEAVY SIGH
I am having a hard time getting my post to upload. It shows in the strangest pages. I have to uninstall and reinstall a lot. Of course this not new to me Sigh!
I am heading back to Florida on Friday this week and will see what happens on the computer there. This one does not have a cable connection and is very slow.
Anyway no rain and earth quakes so far!
I HAVE to walk today to get ready for my trip. At 68, and all the health stuff that has happened this past winter and spring, I need to stay in shape. Good news now that I have had my eye surgery I can see clearly now.

ICE CREAM
There are people who say “I don’t like ice cream.” and people who say “don’t fix any for me, about cake.” I can’t relate to them. I am not rude except to say “ What? You don’t like ice cream?”
I try to be pleasant but find that either I put the info in my denial department or stay a little away from them.
It is not that they just landed from Mars. They are just different from me bless their hearts.
The only ice cream that I will not eat (only if I am desperate will I partake) is cherry ice cream. I like cherries in pie, tarts, and so on just not ice cream.
I have been cruising the net as usual and found a neat site
Perhaps you would like to try it. It is called Stumble Upon. Check out Wise Cat.

A GREAT DAY
It is a beautiful morning in Southern California. We haven’t had any rain since I
returned in July.
Last weekend we drove down to Dana Point. Very nice.
This weekend T. has a sort of fair for pets for her vet clinic. She has been a vet tech for about 25 years. When she lived in Ocklawaha, Fl she took care of all the family pets with shots and meds. She is very missed as now the family members are raising cocker spaniels and have to pay for treatment.

CATS AND FOG
As we are located not too far from Laguna Beach we get the Marine Layer. The Marine
Layer comes “on little cat’s feet” and keeps the air cool until noon or later.
I spent my early years in New England and later in Florida. It was, and still is, called fog.
We have three cats here. None of them mine, which means I don’t have to change the litter boxes. The cats are named “Evie” for evil cat,” Hemi” for Earnest Hemingway House in Key West. There are at least twenty-six cats there. Not Here! , And they all have extra toes. Hemi also has multiple toes. Then there is “Spanky” who has markings similar to the dog on “Our Gang”.
I spent a lot of time last night trying to put pictures of Alie on my photo page but there is probably a step that at the time I forgot.
I have been instructed to go walking this am so I am off.

ALI THE WONDER DOG
Alie was the wonder dog of Ocklawaha, Fl. She passed this last early spring. She was too young to die but things happen. She was found one evening after dark by the owner’s dad. Curled up under the cedar tree near the pool. There was no trauma that could be observed and we all had seen her outside during the day.
Alie was a red Golden Retriever. .

STRANGE THINGS ARE HAPPENING
Strange things are happening again. I had been blogging on Radio off and on and this time it is really interesting. I do not blame Radio for the frustration as I choose to sign up again

DOWN TO DANA POINT
T. Drove K. and I down to Dana Point today. It was a beautiful day in Southern California. There is a small but very busy marina there. They also have some nice restaurants and shops. We walked around and took photos, which I will place on my Tonie Brooks Photo page because I will not get the hang of Radiophotos.
The wind coming off the Pacific was very cool for a summer day but felt good.
