Scandalous!
I live in a litlle provincal country (huh? – you heard me!). And as such we have little provincial scandals. There’s a nice one going on right now. Prime Minister Balkenende has complained about some satires on the subject of the royal family. He’s afraid it might be bad for their image. Now isn’t that nice of him. Unfortunately for him we have freedom of speech in this country. And some very good laws on where that begins and ends. Which is not up to the PM to decide. Today he had to defend himself in parliament. Which caused many politicians to try and be funny. Some even succeeded. Some of those even willingly. All in all, as we say, a storm in a glass of water.

Is there a storm coming
Tonight (well, technically yesterday) I saw I am Kloot. But that's not what this is about. This is about the first time I saw them. Back then they had just released their first album and this was their first time here. It was a good show. People threw lighters at them, but only because theirs didn't work. This show was not only memorable because I was there, but there was also a journalist from Oor. The biggest music magazine in this country. He wrote a piece about it. And then it became a bit of a hype. They called it the 'New Acoustic Movement' (site currently unavailable - figures) and bands like Kings of Convenience, Turin Brakes and I am Kloot were supposed to be part of it. It didn't become very big. There weren't that many bands involved and some aren't very productive. Still good music though. They write the kind of songs that sound familiar the first time you hear them. Unfortunately that's not the kind of songs that cause a big media frenzy. So just another shower then.
