In need of a fix…

I must profusely apologize for being kind of lax in the old-time radio department these past couple of days. Every now and then, I suffer from OTR burnout and my interest gets diverted to other pursuits, it seems. Case in point: I bought my mother the DVD box set of Will & Grace: The Complete Second Season a week or two back, and since she’s a little player-impaired, she asked me to put a disc on. Well, I sat down to watch a few and the next thing I know I’m halfway through the set. So I’ve got a bit of a DVD monkey on my back right now.

A day or two ago, I mentioned that Warner Home Video would be releasing The Asphalt Jungle, Murder, My Sweet, Out of the Past and The Set-Up to DVD. What I did not know, however, was that the good folks at Warner are also releasing these four movies in a box set—Shadows, Lies and Private Eyes—and that it is not only cheaper to buy said box set, but you also get a bonus DVD that will not be sold separately: the 1949 Joseph H. Lewis classic Gun Crazy (a.k.a. Deadly is the Female). Gun Crazy is considered by many to be one of the seminal film noirs, and although Republic Home Video released it on VHS a good ten or fifteen years ago, it has been out-of-print since. So this is wonderful news; I just had to cancel my pre-order for the other four and order a copy from Amazon, which has it for $34.94—a steal, no?
