This, that and the other thing…
I’ve already grabbed a CD to take with me to work tonight, so tomorrow there will definitely be something OTR-related posted. Once again, I apologize for being kind of slack. Harlan Zinck of First Generation Radio Archives sent me an amusing e-mail on behalf of the organization apologizing for monopolizing some of my time, but in all fairness, it’s been more me than anyone else—I’ve been suffering from a small case of blog burnout.
But now that I’ve subtly mentioned the FGRA, I should point out that they’ve got the five remaining CDs in The Planet Man collection on sale for a limited time (with liner notes provided by yours truly), and…if you missed out on the first ten which were introduced at month’s beginning you can still grab the entire set for the discounted price until the end of May (“Great blazing meteors!”). The Archives are also spotlighting a five-CD set of programs in The Old Gold Comedy Theater series, a comedy anthology broadcast from 1944-45 over NBC Radio. The host of the program was comedy great Harold Lloyd—does anyone besides me remember back in the 1970s when PBS stations ran Lloyd’s classic silent films? Man, those were great. If you’re among the first fifty to snap up the Old Gold Comedy Theater discs, you’ll receive a copy of Lloyd’s personal script for the “Vivacious Lady” broadcast (November 19, 1944)—but naturally, you cannot get in on this deal unless you are a member. So do yourself a favor and sign up—you won’t regret it, I promise you.
And I know this is sort of off-topic, but today in the mail I received a copy of Dad’s Army: The Complete Scripts, a book containing all the scripts for all the episodes of one of Britain’s best-loved sitcoms. I can’t believe how huge this book is (I could use it for a doorstop), and I also can’t believe the discount I got on it—I paid $16.99 for a book that retailed for $35.00 originally. (I’m telling you, this is one big honkin’ book.)
