On this date in the Golden Age of Radio

From Those Were the Days:

1939 - When a Girl Marries was first heard on CBS. The serial continued for eighteen years on radio.

1943 - The Million Dollar Band was heard for the first time on NBC Radio. Charlie Spivak was the first leader of the band that featured Barry Wood as vocalist. The unusual feature of the show was the awarding each week of five diamond rings!

No news is good news…

I’ve been having problems with RadioUserLand of late, and I’ve finally figured out what the difficulty is. Apparently, Radio is having issues with my Zone Alarm firewall software—I’ve tried everything possible to get the two of them to kiss and make up, but to no avail. So I ended up having to dump ZA.

I don’t have any material prepared today, mostly because it was a zoo at the hotel last night, what with Memorial Day weekend and all. Recently, management has introduced a continental breakfast to our little inn, but they’re still trying to iron out the bugs—this morning, I was rushing around like Daffy Duck in a wigged-out Bob Clampett cartoon trying to get the damn thing set out because according to the schedule, the housekeeper in charge of putting out the spread wasn’t supposed to be working. She came in around 6:45am and informed me that management has instructed breakfast to start at 7am on the weekends, and 6:30 weekdays. (If any of you think I was informed of this, then never lose that optimism. I’ve proposed that the official logo of the hotel be a picture of two people closing a barn door while a horse hauls ass off toward the horizon—but I’m thinking it may be too subtle for management to grasp.)

So after you read the scant stuff here, why not go over to World O’Crap and cheer up the always delightful s.z.? Apparently she has to practice her blog all weekend and can’t come out and play baseball. Seriously, if it weren’t for her, I would probably never even gotten into blogging, so she certainly could use the company.

What Classic Movie Are You?

So I went over to this site recommended by Paul Hinrichs at Playing With My Food, and Other Things--it's a test you can take entitled "What Classic Movie are You?" Strangely enough, the above film is the one I ended up being, the movie Paul wanted to be.

Personally, I'd rather be the movie that Paul ended up with, Sunset Boulevard. But only because it's a better film.
