Non sequitur of the week

My eight-year-old son was engaged in a living room floor pirate battle with his toys (we are in a “Pirates of the Caribbean” phase) when he suddenly made a dash for the bathroom. He slid across the hallway in his socks, spun around to face me and, in his best tough guy voice, exclaimed, “I have to go to the bathroom…and this time it’s personal!”

Wordplay (#4)

The word of the day is:

Ululate, intransitive verb. To howl or wail.

Some dictionaries define ululate as howling like a dog or a wolf. Yes, we like that definition even better. Ululate is generally considered a feminine word. Women ululate. But not enough if you ask us. Frankly, we find it very sexy. We’re not talking about the kind of ululating that Arab women do after their village has just been blown up for the third time in a week. That’s simply too depressing. We’re talking about the heart-pumping, frenzied ululation that we’ve heard on Xena: Princess Warrior.  (Not sure what we’re talking about? Have a listen to the Xena war cry here.) We are thinking that a little Xena action in the bedroom is just what the doctor ordered during these cold winter months. Also, we know of a little store that carries some Xena clothing to accessorize the fantasy. And with Valentine's Day just around the corner...

Next time in Wordplay: another different word.
