Cicada I
It is a true wonder of nature that a Brood X cicada grub can lie dormant underground for seventeen years and know exactly when to crawl out of the ground to get on with its life.
It is also a wonder that I can look at a newspaper or watch the evening news and know with incredible accuracy when this insect will crawl out of the ground.
Yet, I cannot be counted on to take out the trash on Wednesday evening for a Thursday pickup.
And neither can the cicada.
