Late payment

I wonder if any of you are still waiting for your September check from the Blog Company. They have been like clockwork for me. A check for $1,000 arrives in the mail on the first or second of the month, no later than the third. I didn’t know about the compensation package when I first started blogging. I thought, you know, that I was doing this just for fun. So, you can imagine my surprise when that first check arrived along with the paperwork for the matching contributions to the health insurance and retirement plan. It was like found money.

At first I didn’t touch the funds. I assumed that these regular payments were a mistake and that somebody would be calling me, asking for the money back – with interest! But the checks kept rolling in, so, what the heck, I started spending. I bought myself a nice new television set, took the family to Italy, hired a housekeeper and lawn service. All the while, I kept expecting that I would find out this has all been a big goof-up. No one ever talks about their writing salary in the blogosphere, but I just figured everyone else was worried about this potential mistake, too.

It’s September 9th and I haven’t gotten this month’s check. I don’t know what to think. I’ve noticed that every check is signed by Douglas Goldwater of the International Blog Corporation (with a personal note on the subject line like, “keep up the good work!” or “I’d love to see another Bud story.”). The checks are underwritten by the Allied Bank of Apache Junction, Arizona. I suppose I could call them and see what’s up, but, again, I don’t want to draw attention.  Perhaps I should just wait it out. If the check arrives, well, great; if not, then I’ll just have to let the housekeeper go and count my blessings.

I look forward to your comments, my fellow bloggers, on this, the most well kept secret in the world of blogging.

One final note: How about that International Blogging Corporation 401K? 20% gain in a bear market. Awesome performance. Maybe we can retire at 50 after all.
