The brightest bulb in the bin

Tonight a light bulb burned out in our bedroom lamp. I went to the bin in the closet where we keep our spare light bulbs and discovered that we were out of 60 watt bulbs, the optimal wattage for this particular lamp. In fact, we were out of all useful sizes of bulbs. There was a 20 watt bulb in there. I couldn't for the life of me remember why I would have bought that size in the first place.  We had a green-tinted bulb. Again, why? We had several odd-sized bulbs, like the round ones that go into bathroom vanities, the refrigerator variety, flood lights, night light replacements, and the long thin ones that go into hallway chandeliers. Digging deeper into the box, I found a single 75 watt bulb. It wasn't in its original packaging. It was just a bare light bulb buried in the bottom of the bin. Then I remembered that this bulb had been in a table lamp that was designed for one of those 3-way bulbs. You know, the kind you click three times to go from 40 to 60 to 75 watts. When we finally got a proper 3-way bulb from the store, I pulled the 75 watt bulb out of the table lamp and stuck it in the bin, thinking it still had some life and that it might come in useful some time. Well, now is that time. This previously used, scraped-up 75 watt bulb saved me from having to go to the grocery store.  I screwed it in and flipped the switch. Light filled the room. I couldn't believe it. I'm not really what you would call a waste not, want not kind of guy. But how about that for foresight, huh? Saving a used light bulb! Isn't that great? Okay, by now your realizing that that's all there is to this story. Basically, Jack changed a light bulb today. Yeah, so what of it? I suppose you had a more interesting day?
