What a difference a year makes

How much difference does a year make? In this case, not much. Last year on this day we had our front entranceway replaced. I documented that event here. We had a big, gaping hole in the front of the house. It was quite cold and there was fresh snow. One year later, today, our furnace has crapped out. It’s cold outside. Hell, it’s cold inside. And once again there is fresh snow on the ground. Earlier this morning, I was sitting by the gas log fireplace soaking up the paltry heat that it was giving off when Conor came downstairs having just woken up. Shivering, he joined me by the fireplace. I explained to him that the furnace was broken. I said, “you want to hear something funny, it was one year ago today that the new doorway was put in.” He thought about that for a second. Then he said, “Man, last year we had a hole in our house, this year the furnace is broken, next year I’m going to Hawaii.” Amen to that. Now where is that furnace repair guy?
