Evolution in the suburbs
Tonight I cranked up the heated seat on the passenger side of the car and warmed a bag of takeout food during the drive home. Honestly, I had no business doing that. It felt decadent. I wished I hadn't. A bag of burritos. Some chips and salsa. It was frigid outside. I thought about early man. Back home in the cave, early woman and early child waiting for him to bring home the day's kill. Which he does. The meat's cold, they complain. He grunts and promises to do better. I pulled into the driveway of my modern day cave, grabbed the food and ran toward the door. Along the way, I pointed a key over my shoulder and hit the automatic lock button. Beep. It all leads up to this.
