Second Person, Singular

My good friend Matt has decided to stop writing his blog. And so it is with great bummedoutedness that I strike Second Person, Singular from my blogroll. Matt was responsible for turning me on to blogging. He was already writing his before I even knew what the word blog meant. We get together from time to time at an Irish pub near here for beers and nachos. I remember him telling me one night that I should start my own blog. “My life is busy enough,” I said. “Where would I find the time?” He just smiled. He wasn’t about to divulge the secret that every blogger knows. You don’t find time for blogging, you steal it! Blog time replaces reading, sleeping, watching television, yard work, personal grooming.

I spoke to Matt yesterday. He’s not quitting out of frustration or from being burnt out. He’s just had enough. When I asked him if he would consider starting a new blog, he promised that he wouldn’t rule it out. That will have to do for now.

Thanks for all the great stories at Second Person, Singular, Matt.  And a special thanks for the inspirational kick in the ass that led to this blog.

Inquiring minds want to know

My son, Conor, who is ten, was given a writing assignment at school. If you could talk to your favorite animal, what five questions would you ask it. His response…

I would like to talk to a hawk. I would ask it:

“What is it like to fly?”

“What do you have to do to stay alive?”

“How do you keep your feathers straight?”

“What do birds and lizards taste like?”

“Is it hard to catch food?”
