Scent of the Day, Friday, May 19, 2006

Today I'm wearing Caswell-Massey's Sandalwood cologne.

This is marketed to men, but it really is something that's just fine for anyone who likes non-sweet, light, woody-powdery scents. Plus, who gives a rip about gender-specific marketing, anyway? If I'm female, and I wear it, it's feminine. If my husband wears it, it's masculine. If I wear it after eating Indian food, it's gamey. But I digress, as usual. They use a woody sandalwood base (as opposed to a musky or resinous sandalwood) and a bit of a dry, oppopanax-leaning amber essence to add to the powder without getting too cutesy and sugary. The first blast, however, is a bright, light lemon-citrus that really gets you going. It's perfect for a sunny, optimistic day like today. Caswell-Massey has long been one of my very top picks for sandalwood, especially their soap which is orgasmically good although it dries you out like crazy. They used to make a really good Patchouli too, if that's what you're into. Very true to the essential oil, but the alcohol-based format allowed for sillage, so that you could waft your stanky self all over the room without having to swish around so much. ;)

What are you wearing?
