I'm deciding how to publish my weekly pieces for the sidebar links. For a while I was publishing them as Radio "stories." The advantage was I didn't have to disturb a main entry I'd already written; the disadvantages--which I saw as fairly serious--were that the type was awfully small and that Radio stories did not allow for reader comments. After a while, I started linking to select daily entries as my weekly pieces. The type in the daily entry was good-sized and readers could leave comments. Sometimes a daily entry already appeared fully-formed as an essay, or became one with only minimal tweaks. If so, it was just a matter of titling the piece and linking it to the sidebar. More frequently, however, the weekly essay has been brand-new, unrecognizable, and not really related to anything I'd written as a daily entry. If this has been the case, I've found myself combing through entries of the past week or so, to find one I'd feel comfortable deleting. I then delete material for that date, paste in the essay, and create the link. That hasn't felt honest. I haven't been comfortable with the "historical revision," or with having my more crafted pieces appear with arbitrary dates.
I wonder if readers know what I'm talking about, and how they might have handled a similar challenge. |
