BBC is reporting that Spanish police have arrest 5 men in connection with the train bombings.  Three are Moroccan nationals, and two are from India.  They identified them through a mobile phone and pay card found in a backpack with an unexploded bomb.

If these are the guys, great!  But let's be very, very, VERY skeptical here.  For one thing, elections in Spain are tomorrow.  For another, who the hell is stupid enough to leave their phone card and mobile phone in their bomb backpack?  Also, it makes some kind of sense that Moroccans, a predominatly Muslim country, might be involved in an anti-Western jihadist act.  But Indians?  I've never heard of any involvement of Indians in this type of terrorist movement.  It may be true, there are many Muslims in India, but most of what I've heard of political extremism among Indian Muslim shas been domestic, anti-Hindu acts.

If these are the guys, it may be a sign of how widely al-Quedaism has spread.

But in the meantime, I think we need to hear a lot more evidence before these arrests tell us anything credible about the events in Madrid.
