More on the use of political statues.
Of course the statues of unpopular political leaders and world criminals can be used for far more than tearing them down. Some of the latest uses-
Stalin World in Lithuania has been called a cross between Disneyland and a Gulag. The richest man in Lithuania (the Donald Trump of canned mushrooms) somehow gained use rights for all the Stalin and Lenin statues that had been removed from public squares in that country during the revisions of history. Not having enough room in his house to display them, he came up with the swell idea of a theme park for them. He sees it as a healthy way to face the past. For those who decry his insenstivity, he's quick to point out that his own relatives were hauled away to camps. http://www.balticsww.com/stalin_world.htm
Then there's Kalat, the sculptor who made Saddam's likeness for his palace which now houses the 4th Infantry. When our troops downed them, they were cut up and sent back to Kalat for rehabilitation.. He reshaped the chunks of bronze into a likeness of an American Soldier who kneels before a shrine of boots, rifle and helmet. His forehead rests in the hollow of his hand. Behind and to his right stands a small Iraqi girl with her hand reaching out to touch his shoulder. (Photo by Benjamin Kibbey)
