A brief haitus while I finish editing a short film and work on a new doc about the history of war memorials in Rhode Island for a speech I'm giving on the topic in April. For more info, check heragallery.org
Right now, my research involves the monument in the Great Swamp that commemorates the bloody battle there during King Philllip's war. It was raised in 1906, 225 years after the actual event and my main question is why then? It was raised by the Society of Colonial Wars, but the main oration was a clear statement that this site was a place of shame, a place where the twins of betrayal and treachery ended in burning women, children and the elderly. It grows more fascinating the deeper I go. I'm researching the time around the event and, frankly, am puzzled.
