AMERICAN VOTERS LOVE A COWBOY
Bush likes to blame Clinton and all Democrats for September 11th and does so by maintaining an aire of hyper-masculinity while portraying the Democrats as sissies. In an effort to determine the accuracy of Bush's claims let's compare a few quotations, shall we? The George W. Bush for President site offers quotations from everyday Americans expressing their support for the President. Here's an example: "I support President Bush and his administration, because of the way in which he has handled the war on terrorism. His leadership, dedication, follow-through and hard work have made our country a safer place to live during these changing times. My family will continue to sleep well at night knowing that he's on the job!" To Mr. Miller, parts of the PDB warning the administration about September 11th: "Al Qaeda members — including some who are U.S. citizens — have resided in or traveled to the U.S. for years, and the group apparently maintains a support structure that could aid attacks. Two Al Qaeda members found guilty in the conspiracy to bomb our embassies in East Africa were U.S. citizens, and a senior E.I.J. member lived in California in the mid-1990's. A clandestine source said in 1998 that a bin Laden cell in New York was recruiting Muslim-American youth for attacks. Nevertheless, F.B.I. information since that time indicates patterns of suspicious activity in this country consistent with preparations for hijackings or other types of attacks, including recent surveillance of federal buildings in New York. " I am not saying that Bush is to blame for the attacks. No one, including Mr. Bush, would ignore hard evidence of an attack. However, given the PDB and Richard Clark's testimony, it is clear that his campaign strategy of describing himself as hard on terrorists as opposed to the softy Democrats is not quite accurate. Let's look at another quotation from the Bush website: "I look at President Bush and see a dependable, compassionate, Christian man. No one leader can please everyone, but he does all he can for our country. I am so very proud of him and once again, am proud to be an American. May God bless President Bush and his family." Now, in honor of Easter, a quotation from GW's favorite philosopher, Jesus Christ:
