George F. Will = Communist
Yesterday while listening to sports talk radio, I heard George Will say that the Alex Rodriguez trade to the New York Yankees was an embarrassment to baseball.
This is over and above his repeated criticisms of A-Rod's record $252 million signing with the Texas Rangers in 2000.
Here's what he said, for example, during a 2001 lecture at the U.S. Naval Academy when asked about the topic:
Alex Rodriguez signed a ten-year contract for a quarter of a
billion dollars, and that's before the incentives kick in. Now, you
are going to have to explain to me why someone who is making a quarter of a
billion dollars needs an incentive on top of that. But,
anyway, what is peculiar about the salary is the Texas Rangers paid him
that and there was no second bidder in this auction. I mean, how do
you do that? No one was bidding against the Rangers at that point. Yes,
it is bad for baseball. Someone has to pay for it, and the people who pay it are the people who walk through the turnstiles. I just spent eighteen months with Paul Volker, former Senator George Mitchell, Rick Levin, the president of Yale, writing a report on revenue disparities and what they are doing to competitive balance in baseball.
Why does George Will hate Capitalism? Doesn't he know that the free market is responsible for everything good in America? Pretty soon he'll be calling for a more progressive income tax.
As far as I'm concerned, he can take his whining about "the people," "revenue disparaties," and "competitive balance" to Cuba where he belongs.

Join The Presidential Prayer Team

Although you may have missed the President's Day Virtual Prayer Rally, it's not too late to pray for this week's requests:
- Pray for God's grace to be with the President, giving him wisdom, strength and protection from evil.
- Pray for the President as he works to limit the spread of nuclear weapons around the world. Pray that nations who may intend to do harm will alter their plans.
- Pray for Attorney General John Ashcroft as he works to stop the use of steroids which can have debilitating effects on athletes. Pray that athletes at every level will spurn sterioid use.
- Pray for the members of the President's newly appointed commission to study intelligence capabilities. They are charged with studying the ways our nation gathers information and how it is used--specifically regarding weapons of mass destruction.Pray for Co-Chairs Charles S. Robb and Laurence H. Silberman and members John McCain, Lloyd Cutler, Richard Levin, Henry S. Rowen, William Studeman, Charles M. Vest and Patricia Wald.
- As the Nation observes the birthday of President Abraham Lincoln, pray for the President to continue to honor Lincoln's memory by working for justice and freedom for those who are oppressed and abused. Pray that God's gifts of liberty and freedom will become more and more real for every citizen our our country.
- Pray also for our Nation to avidly pursue the advice of George Washington, that we may continue to embrace faith in God that will inform morality in America, turning the hearts of many to good.
- Pray for our troops--that God will guard and guide them whether they serve at home, overseas or in the volatile fields of Afghanistan and Iraq. Pray for their protection, specifically against insurgent groups. Pray for peace of mind for their friends, family and loved ones.
- Pray that God will powerfully use the new film, The Passion of the Christ, to open the hearts and minds of many in our country who have never considered the life and death of Jesus Christ. Pray for churches to be wise as they explain the film to those seeking greater understanding.
- Pray for the Presidents Day Virtual Prayer Rally to greatly impact America for good and for God.
