Pornoganda

Justin Raimundo coins a new term in the War on Terror.

OK, for our submissions to the OED, we have so far: "Gitmoize" and "pornoganda."

Any other sugestions? WWDT welcomes your feedback.

Family Values

A picture named Bushies1.jpg JENNA (with Barbara): Mom, why is Dad not coming to our graduations?

LAURA: I don't know, dear. Why don't you ask your Uncle Karl.

BARBARA (with Jenna): Uncle Karl, why isn't Dad coming to our graduations?

UNCLE KARL: Your daddy is just being considerate. He doesn't want to ruin your graduations with the security and media and all.

JENNA: But all our friends -- their dads are going to be there!

BARBARA: It's not fair!

UNCLE KARL: I know, I know, but think of your friends. If your daddy were there, it would be all crowded, everyone would have to be searched -- no one would have any fun.

JENNA: But Aunt Karen told us that he's going to graduations all over the place.

BARBARA: Yeah, like LSU ... the Air Force Academy ...

JENNA: Even Concordia University ... wherever that is.

UNCLE KARL: Uh, Wisconsin, dear.

JENNA: Yeah, Wisconsin. Whatever.

UNCLE KARL: Well, look, you two ... your daddy loves you very much and is very proud of your achievements. And I swear, if you were graduating from a military academy, or a university in a contested state, heck, he'd be right there near the stage to hug and kiss and take pictures with you.

But you two chose schools in Connecticut and Texas, and you know very well this is an election year. So I'm sorry, I'm afraid he can't make it.

JENNA AND BARBARA: [In tears.]

UNCLE KARL: How about we make it up to you? How about booking you on Fox for an interview with your mommy and daddy about your graduations? Would you like that? It would get you more TV exposure ... increase your chances for a show. What do you say?

JENNA AND BARBARA (kissing Uncle Karl): Thanks, Uncle Karl!

Let the Eagle Soar

During his speech on Education Reform in Parkersburg, West Virginia, President Bush took a moment to clarify America's place in world history:

And we're being tested, see. We're being tested because there are people who cannot stand the thought of free societies growing up in a part of the world that is used to hatred and tyranny. We're being tested because there are cold-blooded killers that cannot stand the thought of freedom becoming the norm.

And yet, we know something here in America. We know the power of free societies. See, freedom equals peace. Free societies will be peaceful societies. And we also know that freedom is not America's gift to the world. Freedom is the Almighty God's gift to each man and woman in this world. (Applause.)

I want these Marines to know that they are serving in historic times. The world is changing for the better. The world will be more free and more peaceful, thanks to the United States of America and our military. These are historic times.

[snip]

I have faith in the power of freedom to spread its wings in parts of the world that desperately need freedom.

So, to summarize our president's talking points:

  • Freedom = peace.

  • We're at war because of our commitment to freedom.
  • Freedom is not America's gift to the world, but the Almighty's gift to mankind.
  • The world will be more free and more peaceful, thanks to the United States of America and our military.

They get medals

A picture named terrmedal2.jpg The Washington Post reported yesterday that private contractors have been receiving medals for their services in Iraq.

Now that one no longer has to be a soldier, strictly speaking, to be acknowledged for one's valor in the Global War on Terror, I think it is only fair that the military also consider the contributions of our nation's Prayer Warriors.

WWDT urges its readers to write or call the Pentagon and demand they award Col. Oliver North with the newly minted Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Chuck Missler of Spiritual Warfare Ministries with its Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal.
