Savage Weiner
In his latest book The Republican Noise Machine, David Brock sniffs out a possibility in Michael Savage's closet:
Savage is everything he professes to hate: a Jew, the child of immigrants, a resident of San Francisco, and a man inordinately preoccupied with homosexuality.

Savage has a long history of making vicious remarks about gays and lesbians. According to Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting, in 1999 "Savage ... apologized to gay activists after saying he wished they would get AIDS"; he called the Million Mom March "the Million Dyke March"; he referred to "the grand plan to push homosexuality to cut down the white race"; and he has dubbed Supreme Court Justices Sandra Day O'Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, along with Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, a "sheocracy" who have "feminized and homosexualized much of America, to the point where the nation has become passive, receptive and masochistic." As Boston Pheonix media critic Dan Kennedy noted, one Savage column warned, "Your children's future is what we're talking about, a matter of life and death for their future. The gay and lesbian mafia wants our children. If it can win their souls and minds, it knows their bodies will follow. Of course, it wants to homosexualize the whole country, not just the children. This is all part of the war that is going on." After the 2000 election, Savage asked, "Were the ballot machines homophobic because some weak-wristed types had insufficient strength to press hard enough to register a vote?"

In [the years after receiving his Ph.D. in 1978], Savage wrote several books (as Michael Weiner), mostly on health and nutrition, as well as a 1983 fiction collection titled Vital Signs. As Salon reported, the books' protagonist, Samuel Trueblood, is taunted by his father with antigay attacks such as "You're not a fag, are you, Sam?" Trueblood concedes he is attracted to "masculine beauty," but he says, "I choose to override my desires for men when they swell in me, waiting out the passion like a storm, below decks." Savage has written of being psychologically tortured by his father. (247-8)
Poor Savage has issues.
