Fair and balanced
Carl Cameron, the chief political correspondent at Fox News, claimed that Kerry said the following at a rally in Tampa:
- "Women should like me! I do manicures."
- "Didn't my nails and cuticles look great? What a good debate!"
- "I'm metrosexual -- [Bush's] a cowboy."
Too good to be true? Of course. Cameron fabricated the quotes based on RNC talking points.
But then the quotes appeared in an actual article on the Fox News site. And Josh Marshall (bless his soul) caught them in the act.
I wonder if Brit Hume wishes to revise his previous opinion of Cameron:
Our day-in, day-out coverage by Carl Cameron has been extremely fair to Kerry, and the Kerry campaign has recognized this.
Postscript: If you have seen "Outfoxed," you may recall the scene in which Cameron chats up candidate George W. Bush before an interview, saying how his wife is working hard on the campaign and has enjoyed hanging out with his sister.
