Ahmend fuer Ahnuld

A picture named A4A.jpg

Amend for Arnold is a group of concerned citizens who wish to gather support for amending Article 2, Section 1 of the Constitution to allow Arnold Schwarzenegger to run for President.

Judging from their commercial, the idea is clearly based on principle. Shouldn't any American, whether native or foreign-born, have the opportunity to run for President? Thus, the name of the group: Amend for Arnold.

If you support the idea, perhaps you are asking yourself what you can do to help. Amend for Arnold suggests the following:

(1) Walk or run or ride in a benefit for your favorite charity and wear an AmendforArnold T-shirt. Buy one of ours or make your own --- it's amazing how people talk to you when you wear a T-shirt that says AmendforArnold. (Happens to us every single day.) If they like Arnold, ask them to join us and tell us you sent them.

(2) Walk or run or ride in a race with a bunch of friends and form a "centipede" carrying an AmendforArnold banner. Send us a picture of you and your buddies in the centipede and we[base ']ll post it on this website.

(3) Have a PartyforArnold Once a month, we want to hold conference calls on the progress you and the rest of our team is making. If you're willing to call a bunch of friends for a potluck dinner and then get on the call, we can keep everybody in touch aurally (as well as digitally) as we unite to take this movement nationwide.

Clearly these people mean business. The leaders of the group plan to stage an annual rally for Arnold in every state capital.

They have also formulated a four year plan, presumably to enable Arnold to run in 2008:

Year 1: AmendforArnold rises to 1 million members. AmendforArnold teams in walking, running and cycling events around the country. Launch the first of our annual marches on every capitol in the 50 states plus territories. Hold our first march in D.C.

Year 2: AmendforArnold rises to 10 million members. Expand to have AmendforArnold teams in EVERY walking, running and cycling event around the country. Hold our second annual march on every capitol in the 50 states plus territories. Hold our second march in D.C., bigger and better than our first!

Year 3: We mount a Million-Human March on Washington, D.C. - this is to encourage the House and Senate to pass the Amendment.

Year 4: Our members stage an Olympic-torch style relay around the United States to secure the required 38 states' ratification of the Amendment.

A picture named AAtshirt.jpg Finally, a movement by and for the physically fit. Perhaps when they come to power, they will come up with a creative solution for America's obesity problem, such as putting the flabby weaklings in camps -- along with obstructionist democrats who "tolerate" such unhealthy people.

At any rate, if you are as enthusiastic as I am about the possibilities, why not check out "Arnoldia" and pick up a t-shirt or coffee mug? Christmas is just around the corner.

[Tip of the hat to The Daily Show, for drawing attention to the group.]
