The Irregulars Blog
This blog will tend to focus on various issues of the day, particularly politics, with much time taken for random digressions. On weekends I will attempt to post movie reviews for videos/DVDs/and new movies I watch, though these can be time-consuming, so it remains to be seen if I can make this a regular feature.

I have a confession to make. Last night, I went home and watched CNBC's The Dennis Miller Show just so I could write as the first sentence of my blog today, "So I forced myself to tune in last night to assess the state of the train wreck that is Dennis Miller's CNBC show." Such heights of snarkiness make for a blogger's Valhalla. Alas, I came home later than expected, and missed the first 15 minutes of the show, caught the next 15 minutes whilst making Hamburger Helper (insult self-deprecating joke here about my pathetic lifestyle and/or eating habits) and finally only got around to sitting down and giving my full attention to the last 30 minutes of the show. Alas yet again, I did not vehemently dislike it nor was I bored out of my mind. As I said, I did miss the first 15 minutes, so I can't say for sure if the monkey was fired, but one can only hope (for those of you who didn't see early episodes of this show, and are intrigued by that last sentence, don't be). And the 15 minutes of show I caught during Hamburger Helper preparation seemed to consist mainly of Miller interviewing Florida governor Jeb Bush and asking many hard-hitting questions, the gist of all which seemed to be: "I live in California, and I've noticed that the slimy socialist liberals here seem to want to turn the state into the second coming of the Red Menace, and I've noticed that Florida is in every way so much better than California, why is that governor?" One can only hope that Jeb will recover from the pummeling. Nevertheless, when Miller moved on to his round table discussion, it was genuinely informative and, mostly through radio talk show host Dennis Prager, gave air to a fairly intelligent semi-pseudo-neo-conservative point of view... and no, I don't think I used enough qualifiers to describe that point of view. Regardless, the conversation was fairly calm and fresh. I particularly enjoyed Prager's complaint about the media referring to the assassinated Hamas leader, Sheik Yassin, as the "spiritual leader" of Hamas. Of course it is ridiculous to give that mass murderer such a benign sounding name. He was the leader of a terrorist organization, plain and simple. But I digress. Afterwords, Miller had a pleasant interview with the new 31 year-old general manager of the Dodgers, Paul DePodesta, one of the disciples of Moneyballer Billy Beane, general manager of the Oakland Athletics. All in all, the show was pleasant enough, and I had only my Hamburger Helper to console me in my sorrow that I would not be able to use my wonderful opening sentence.
