Cassandra Predicts Forced By The Press of Events To tell the Truth
Mystery of the Smoking Gun
For years Bill Safire (plunkit) has warned us of a leak between El Qaeda and Saddam Hussein. But did we listen? Nooooooooooo! We just snickered behind our hands and made rude faces when he wasn't looking.
Well, who's laughing now Mr. Smartie Pants?
This past Wednesday was pay back day when Bill got to gloat. How, Why? Because an article in the Times, by Dexter Filkins, "on the front page, above the fold" no less, unveils "the smoking gun" proving a "clear link existed between world terror and Saddam..."
Great stuff.
The only part of the story that remains mysterious is how Bill finds a smoking gun in an article that says:: "(I)t does not speak to the debate about whether there was a Qaeda presence in Iraq during the Saddam Hussein era, nor is there any mention of a collaboration with Saddam loyalists." But that's just a quibble.
This is a link to the Filkins article reprinted in the Herald Tribune (‘cause it's free there) (plunket)
