Pure Speculation

Are the Bush Family gremlins preparing to blame the outing of Valerie Plame on the "Zionists" ?

Or is our finely honed sense of paranoia merely suffering from incipient Spring Fever?

Face the Nation:

Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum made the point that Same-Sex Marriage was a very real threat to the institution of marriage.

He repeated the point strongly and clearly.

Because of the importance of this point, that gay marriage damaged marriage, he repeated it yet again.

He never actually got to explaining how it damaged marriage.

Meet the Press:

Robert Novak denounced the Socialist programs destroying the country such as Social Security, income taxes and the end of indentured servitude.

Same-Sex Marriage

Face the Nation

Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum made the point that Same-Sex Marriage was a very real threat to the institution of marriage.

He repeated the point strongly and clearly.

Because of the importance of this point, that gay marriage damaged marriage, he repeated it yet again.

Too bad he never got around to how it damaged marriage.

Oh well.

The Democrats Debate

The candidates were asked:

"What's wrong with Gay marriage?"

"Who does it hurt?"

Kerry and Edwards floundered around with the familiar non-answers:

o I'm personally against same-sex marriage, but...
o It's up to the States
o I'm for civil union
o blah
o blah
o blah

Neither ever did answer the question.

Sharpton and Kucinich, unencumbered by any hope of winning, were free to express pro gay-marriage positions:
Kucinich: We have to show we have a capacity to expand.
Sharpton: Are gays and lesbians human or not?

While it would be nice to have "serious" candidates actually taking honest positions on all issues, leading the American people and not being led, they can't do anything if they don't get elected.

So, the correct answer is:

"Look, any way I answer that will anger some voters and right now there are even more pressing problems facing us and so I'm going to duck that one and ask people to decide between me and George Bush based on how we would deal with national security, jobs, the deficit. And if someone chooses to vote against me because of that answer, so be it."

Powell Went There

Seems He Got Over It

“Mr. Brown, I won’t dignify your comments about the president because you don’t know what you are talking about,”
Colin Powell responding to Rep. Sherrod Brown's remark that George Bush may have been AWOL from the National Guard (2/11/04)

"I am angry that so many of the sons of the powerful and well-placed managed to wangle slots in the Army Reserve and National Guard units." -- Colin Powell, My American Journey, 1995
