Social Security Solution: Make the Old Work Until Death By JOHN TIERNEY I realize I'm being impolitic. Americans now feel entitled to spend nearly a third of their adult lives in retirement. The problem isn't that Americans have gotten intrinsically lazier. They're just responding to a wonderfully intentioned system that in practice promotes greed and sloth.   [Yurica Report Editor's Note: John Tierney's article brings moral accusations for the first time against America's elderly. His "solution" to Social Security is to make the elderly work for however long it takes to reduce the taxes on younger workers. He speaks of the elderly--not as lazy--but implies they are motivated by greed and the desire for the good life. Tierney asserts his religious beliefs: that Social Security as a system promotes "greed and sloth." We do not agree. We strongly oppose his moral blindness. We believe that a form of social security was created in the Bible by legal statute in Deuternonmy 26:12-13; and in Deut. 24:19-22; and was approved by Jesus in Matthew 25:31-45.
