Dude Week: Guest - Ulak

Greetings from Ulak

To begin, I very much enjoyed being interviewed by Birdie last week for Beautydish Radio. It was the first time that I have been asked to do such a thing. I was actually a little nervous beforehand because I did not know what could be so interesting about this Turkish businessman to her mostly female beauty seekers. But Birdie assured me that it would be as much fun as some of the other experiences I have had in relation to her Avon work, so I of course said OK. Even half as much fun would be plenty. Besides, one must try new things to learn, and everything can add to one's business skills. "If skills could be obtained simply by watching, then any dog could become a butcher." So now I will write to improve my communication skills, and I have asked Birdie to only correct my typographical mistakes so that I am forced to do my best in this first exercise.

But how beautiful do I need to be? Will I sell more coffee and tea? Are buyers smelling me or my goods? The answer to that last question, Birdie tells me, is that they will usually smell both, so I would like my buyers to be sold equally on me and my coffees and teas. The Avon deodorants and sprays for men are very nice and blend well with the Rosemary oil I have been using for many years on my hair (and places where I sweat) since I was a child. I think Americans who I sometimes do business with like these more refined smells, so now I offer something pleasant to every nose and palate. This is an important thing for some of my family to experience as well. Some at home are very traditional. They perhaps need to wake up and smell something newer than coffee. (I could fill many, many pages with amusing stories.) The first time that I came home wearing the Avon men's R.P.M. cologne my mother, who lives with by brother and I, said to my brother, "Çem, do we have a female guest?" He answered, "No Ana, we live in America." Well, now my brother wears it too, so there are no more comments. As the saying goes: "Dogs bark, but the caravan continues on its way."

Now it is typical with coffee buyers to not only smell and taste the beans, they to also look at them very closely, under good light, for color and degrees of imperfection. So the question here is; now that I rival my teas and coffees in odorous value, should I show them my famous back? Will that cement the relationship? In my circles the men do not pay attention to such aspects, so this brings up the complicated question of attracting and pleasing women with our appearance as men. It is important to say that Turkish women are perhaps easier to please with what God has already produced, so they do not look a man over and say that this one has not enough or too much hair, or in the wrong places. They care more about our character and ability to take care of the family. But American women have made their men worry about these things. Because I live in America, am unmarried, and like many American women, I am enjoying my new finish. You see, while it is true that "Beauty passes, wisdom remains," it is also true that beauty is very nice in the meantime.

Welcome to Dude Week!

I am so excited to bring you a full eight days of male guest bloggers! The first guest is my Turkish friend, Ulak, who you can hear at the Beauty Dish Radio archives, part 4. He wasn't sure he wanted to write his thoughts on beauty, but I told him he had quite a fan base. Please welcome all of the guest bloggers with lots of comments!

The man receiving the most comments for his story will get a super duper Beauty Dish prize - the Avon Men's Catalogue nose hair trimmers and an assortment of products designed to make any man looking smooth!
