A Beauty Gone Wrong Oreo!
We have a few special sprinkles of surprise for Beauty Gone Wrong week. Here's our first, thanks to the always beautiful and never wrong Bonnie of Wandering Willow, a lovely thought of Beauty Gone Wrong to Beauty Gone So Right:
Beauty Gone Wrong
by Bonnie
When a culture trains its children that only the looks of their body is "beauty," no matter what their health or personality is like, then something is definitely wrong. When a girl thinks she must be blonde and thin, have large breasts, and that she must radiate an aura of being hungry for sex, in order to be considered beautiful, something is very wrong. When a boy thinks he must have steroid-grown musculature, be tall, trim, rich and not wear glasses in order to be considered attractive, something is extremely wrong.
Audrey Hepburn loved the following poem. I agree that it is the perfect description of real beauty. Now more than ever we need to redefine "beauty" along these lines. Deep beauty is available to every single one of us, with a little cultivation.
Beauty Tips by Sam Levenson
"For attractive lips, speak words of kindness.
For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.
For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.
For beautiful hair, let a child run his fingers through
it once a day.
For poise, walk with the knowledge you'll never walk
alone ...
People, even more than things, have to be restored,
renewed, revived, reclaimed
and redeemed and redeemed and redeemed.
Never throw out anybody.
Remember, if you ever need a helping hand,
you'll find one at the end of your arm.
As you grow older you will discover that you have two hands: One for helping yourself, the other for helping others."
- Sam Levenson
Audrey did not write this beautiful poem, as is often said. Levenson wrote "Time Tested Beauty Tips" for his grandchild, and it was one of Audrey's favorite poems. She read it to her children on the last Christmas Eve of her life.
