A Herd of Teeny Tiny Reviews: Avon Planet Spa Products

Avon rolled out a line of "natural" products called Planet Spa nearly two years ago. These products are meant to compete with the luxurious and seemingly earth-friendly goods from places like The Body Shop and Bath and Body Works. Like its competitors, the Planet Spa line is, in a way, faux natural - most of the products have some good earthy crunchy ingredients mixed with a small arsenal of preservatives, coagulants, and artificial colors. What's interesting about this product line is that each of the "flavors" - Brazilian Rainforest, Mediterranean Olive Oil, African Shea Butter - comes in an assortment of various products especially formulated to work with the featured natural ingredient, and not replicated by the other flavors.

Avon usually allows two pages per brochure for the Planet Spa line, complete with exotic bikini babe all hot, bothered, and wet under a cascading waterfall. I've smothered myself in every one of the Planet Spa products over the past two years in the hope of turning into a Polynesian babe with glistening skin. I'm still me, alas, but I have recommended quite a few of the Planet Spa products to my customers. Here are my honest - and in just a line or two! - thoughts on the lot of 'em:

Avon Planet Spa Brazilian Rainforest Oxygenating Shower Gel
Smells fresh, invigorating, but I find this shower gel to be extremely drying and irritating to my sensitive skin. My customers, do, too! Not recommended.

Avon Planet Spa Brazilian Rainforest Sheer Lotion Mist
This lotion smells wonderful - a bit spicy, gentle, tropical, and glides on easily, leaves my skin soft for hours without irritation or overwhelming odor. I recommend it!

Avon Planet Spa Brazilian Rainforest Oxygenating Face Mask
Comes in a tub - an extremely generous size for the price. Leaves my facial skin soft, but I find the added fragrance to be annoying after a few hours. Overall a nice product, and a great value. My customers like it! Recommended with a caution to those who are smell-intolerant.

Avon Planet Spa Brazilian Rainforest Heat and Humidity Hair Reviver
Avon promotes this for dry or color-treated hair. My hair is neither, so please take this mini-review with a grain of salt. It does leave my hair soft and manageable, but a bit greasy, almost plastic feel after an hour or so. I like the gentle smell. Not sure I recommend this.

Avon Planet Spa Mediterranean Olive Oil Hydrating Bath and Shower Souffle
Smooth and supple shower "gel" with a creamy texture and feel is gentle and caressing when I apply it in the shower. Nice! I love the smell, and my skin stay soft for absolute days when using this. I highly recommend!

Avon Planet Spa Mediterranean Olive Oil Whipped Body Creme
This skin cream rubs quickly into my arms and legs and leaves them with a soft, inoffensive scent. Keeps my appendages soft and hydrated. Again, highly recommended!

Avon Planet Spa Mediterranean Olive Oil Conditioning Hair Mask
This hair mask leaves my hair dull and coated. Yuck. It may work much better for people with coarse hair. My fine hair can't take the stuff. Not recommended for fine hair! Stay away!

Avon Planet Spa African Shea Butter Whipped Body Balm
The most hydrating and soft lotion of the entire Planet Spa line! I love this so much! It smells wonderful, almost a sandalwood scent, and it smoothes into skin and leaves it incredibly touchable. Ooo la la! Highly recommended.

Avon Planet Spa African Shea Butter Intensive Foot and Elbow Creme with AHA
My customers swear by this product! I do too! Nothing has worked better on my feet! This product will soften even the roughest body spots. I highly recommend this.

Avon Planet Spa African Shea Butter Brown Sugar Body Scrub
I wanted to love this product. It smells terrific - like sugar cookies and hot cocoa, mmmMMmmmmmMMmmmmm. But it leaves my skin itchy, dry, and irritated. I've had customers complain about the same thing. Not recommended unless you aspire to look and feel like a lizard.

Avon Planet Spa African Shea Butter Hand and Cuticle Creme
Leaves my hands feeling coated and greasy. This cream doesn't absorb easily into my skin. It does soften my cuticles, but I would not recommend this product.
