Review: Avon Flip Flop Lipgloss
Every Avon brochure has an item or two highlighted in splashy color pages combined with a rock bottom price and a fun flirty look. The Sand Art Lip Gloss I mentioned in a prior entry is a great example. It was super cheap. It smelled nice, and it looked weird and cool and full of summer sun. Every single customer purchased one - or two or three. No one in their right mind would purchase these kinds of things alone at a store but hot colors and close ups of sexy models licking their lips make us women temporarily insane.
The Flip Flop Lipgloss is last brochure's insanity item. Most of my customers bought one. Avon labeled each with a fruit flavor and scent instead of a color. You could smooth your lips in luscious watermelon, strawberry, peace, or grape. The literature explains that the gloss glides on smooth, not sticky, with a brilliant clear shine with no color.
I bought the watermelon flavor as my demonstration product. It comes in a long see-through cylindrical tube the length of two lipsticks. It is filled with a swirl of clear shine with blobs of fruity flavor color that shimmer and shake, a lava lamp of lipgloss. On first glance it feels and appears classy yet trendy.
The applicator inside the tube is long and slim. You twist open the top and ease the soft applicator through the fruit flavor blobs and clear gloss and spread it on your lips. It tastes like Jolly Roger watermelon candies, sweet and tangy, with a strong and clear picnic scent.
I used the Flip Flop gloss alone, and I used it on top of lipstick. The shine lasts a short while before you need to reapply. I think that's typical for most lipgloss products. But after using it just a week, the clear gloss began to collect small bits and pieces of other lip gunk and colors, and instead of a clear pink swirly fun pretty sexy item, it turned into a gross sludgy multi-hued-turning-brown mess. Ick. I pitched it this morning and was glad to see it go.
The bottom line: Do yourself and your lips a favor. Stay away from the Flip Flop Lipgloss. If anyone wants to order this again, I am going to tie them down until the urge passes. Really. It's that gross.
