Spin point: 9/11 a "shared experience"

This CNN story quotes both Karen Hughes and Rudy Giuliani using the same RNC spin point to defend the Bushies' use of Twin Towers imagery in their TV ads.

Hughes: "It's a reminder of our shared experience as a nation. I mean September 11 is not just some distant tragedy from the past, it really defined our future."

The story also quotes Giuliani saying the ads reflect our "shared experience" and adding, "President Bush has provided the steady, consistent and principled leadership to bring our country through the worst attack in our history," thereby touching on yesterday's spin point: steady leadership in times of change. This statement was distributed by Bush's CREEP.

If they call Bush "principled" often enough, maybe folks will start to believe it again. Fool us once, shame on you...

Code word catch of the day: Adversary

According to this AP story, the Republicans last week sent out a foot soldier, first-term Oklahoma Rep. Tom Cole, to run up the flagpole the notion that voting against Bush is voting for Hitler, and see if anyone objects too much. When Democrats demanded his apology, he threw a big tough chewy bone to the evangelical base.

"What I am saying is that in a time of war, if our commander in chief is defeated in an election, our adversary will regard that as a triumph," Cole told CNN in an interview Thursday.

"Adversary" is of course the Christian Right’s term for Satan, the Devil, the Evil One.

So I had a bit of fun with inserting the missing text--probably the Devil made me do it:

"What I am saying is that in a time of perpetual war against an unspecified foe, if our commander in chief, who in his youth opted not to fight, is again defeated in an election, our adversary (Satan) will regard that as a triumph."

Methinks the Repugnican desperation is showing.
