Astrology, Element Balance and Jones' Pattern of May 2004

by Robert Wilkinson

May features many planets in Taurus, Gemini, and Cancer, thus spreading a wide influence through filling in some voids in the larger planetary span from Cancer through Pisces. Like last month, only Leo, Libra, Scorpio, and Capricorn are not occupied by a planet the first half of the month. Aries goes void until next Spring when Mercury leaves around the middle of the month. The Moon in these signs will definitely add to the overall "Splash" configuration energies, which usually shows a tendency for things to get spread out over a wide variety of areas. The challenge is not to get too diffused while balancing some opposing trends and solidifying others. Of course, at certain times there is a "Splay" pattern, showing powerful, not very well integrated energies that create imbalances but also distinctive activities that intensify our worldly involvements..

The first half of the month continues a fairly good mix between the elements, indicating a general balance between inspiration, ideas, associations, feelings, and practicality. Three planets change signs this month, but the elemental recipe remains fairly stable throughout the first half of May. The second half of May shows the Fire element deficient while the rest are evenly balanced, so generate inspiration where there isn’t much.

The month begins with the Air (mental-interactive) element slightly predominant. The second week the Water (feeling) element is slightly dominant. Earth (practicality) and Water share dominance the third week, and Air and Water are strong the last week. As with last month, Water (feeling) is stable and powerful this month due to the on-going Saturn trine Uranus. This configuration throws harmonious understanding into Scorpio, which is also the South Node sign. So purify, release, and eliminate stuck feelings.

Free Speech, Live Music, and Back-Door Censorship

by Robert Wilkinson

Though many of you don't know it, there's a great experiment in free speech going on almost every night in North Hollywood. For year, Kulak's Woodshed has been providing a non-commercial forum for the best talent in southern California, free of charge, via streaming video from a 6 camera gonzo video cooperative effort of volunteers.

Now, due to a difficult neighbor, the city of LA decided to hassle the Woodshed, succeeding in shutting it down for a day, before it reopened due to a popular outpouring of hundreds of supporters. It seems that politicians are still responsive to local voters, despite our national government's indifference to same. To cut to the chase: this is one of the best things going in the US today. Check it out, and you may find that idealism, quality entertainment, and modern America might just be able to coexist! Click on the link at the left under "Musical Friends" to find out more about this effort, as well as the back door efforts of the City of Los Angeles to stifle one of the last true bastions of (literally) free speech.
