Human Wickedness and Why It Destroys Itself
by Robert Wilkinson
The I Ching, a 2500 year-old book of Chinese wisdom, offers a comforting thought for those of us dealing with the raw face of human mischief making, dissembling, deceptions, and brutality. From Hexagram 23, "Splitting Apart:"
"A law of nature is at work here. Evil is not destructive to the good alone but inevitably destroys itself as well. For evil, which lives solely by negation, cannot continue to exist on its own strength alone."
Which is why, as you can note, the good is self-sustaining, but evil must seek its reasons to exist outside itself. That's why the good will always survive, despite the false arguments that we must counter evil with "overwhelming force." Only a barbarian would make that the first, or even second option. And the public dialogue is heating up.
