Astrology at Work and Play in March-April 2005 - Fire, Earth, Air, Water Element balance with specifics for each sign
by Robert Wilkinson
In March the element patterns and proportions have been fairly stable since the 3rd, with an emphasis on feelings due to 5 planets being in Water (feeling-emotional) signs. The other elements are not nearly as strongly represented, with 2 in Fire (inspirational), 2 in Air (mental-associative), and 1 in Earth (practical-material). There is a big shift on March 20, with the Sun moving out of Pisces into Aries, and Mars moving out of Capricorn into Aquarius. The good news is that pattern remains stable for well over 3 weeks, and so we'll be able to get a temporarily stable focus on the proportion of Material-Emontional-Mental-Spirit energies in our lives. The bad news is that there is no planet in Earth for those weeks, so we'll have to be very grounded and organized if we are not to float off into the distance. We will have to call on our inner Earth energies when there are none in the outer world to draw on. Of course, the void usually brings forth a response to overdo that area, due to insecurity, so maintain a reasonable balance, take care of details without obsessing on them, and keep a loose grip on the reins lest your "horse of personality" rear back and throw you. Or run you into a tree limb, especially when the Cardinal T-square activates in mid-April.
Every month the Sun changes signs around the 19-22. Also in this span in March, Venus and Mars change signs, effecting the diminishment in Water and radically increasing the Fire while boosting the Air influence. So we'll move away from the emotions, restlessness, and changeable fluid feelings that are the Water experience, and increase the inspirational force in our lives. Mercury (mind, perception) stays in Aries through all of March and April, so open to inspired thinking, perceiving, and spiritually directed thoughts. Venus (social feelings, likes, attractions) and Mars (energies, aggravations, initiatives) changing signs will bring different energies in the life affairs governed by these forces in the life areas (houses) these transit and rule.
Elemental shifts may be subtle, but they do affect the atmosphere we live and work within. The more of any element, the more that tendency preponderates. The fewer of any element, the more we must find those qualities within ourselves to compensate for what is lacking in externals. Venus enters Aries March 22, and moves into Taurus, its home sign, on April 15. Thus the Venus-ruled areas of our charts will be going through quick and significant changes over the next four weeks, moving from Water to Fire to Earth, including any planets we have in Taurus or Libra. When the Sun, Mercury, and Venus are in Aries, then the areas ruled by Taurus, Gemini, Leo, Virgo, and Libra areas in our lives are having an Aries experience. The areas of the chart ruled by Aries and Scorpio will transition from an Earth (practical) to an Air (associative) emphasis. This also includes any planets we have in these signs, whether natal, progressed, or in the solar return chart.
During the next few weeks, the mental-associative-interactive energies are still very strong due to Mars, Jupiter, and Neptune in Air signs. These are fairly balanced due to Saturn in Cancer and Uranus in Pisces holding steady in Water (emotional-restless-changeable). So the outer planets show an emphasis toward feeling and thinking and associating and experiencing, while the inner planets are warming us all up due to the increase of the Fire element. Enjoy the electric fire that can warm up your life this month. Fire is optimistic, adventurous, emotional, and brightening, Take the initiative, try new things, open to the infinite possibilities that are revealed by Spring's tremendous abundance. So there's a lot of activity and change in the atmosphere around the Equinox, after which the pattern is very stable through the end of April. However, Venus and then the Sun re-activates the Cardinal T-square that triggered the forceful changes set in motion in January and early March. This link is to Pt.3 of articles explaining the effect of that important T-square. You should also follow the embedded links in that article to Parts 1 and 2 so you can understand what's being triggered for different birthdays and generations. The Capricorn T-squares of January and March set up what will dramatically emerge at the Aries T-squares between the same planets in early April, so consider the challenge of "right action" to be paramount in the next few weeks.
Aries - Get a bigger picture, a broader view of a greater group work, and set your vision into motion. Don't take anything personally, and be a good friend, or find one.
Taurus - You're completing your year, and learned to go deep. Now do what you have to as quickly as possible so you can enjoy the time when Venus returns to your sign.
Gemini - Inspiration and beginnings, forward and backward, sideways and forward, glimpse your fulfillment and find a new way to express your sense of humor.
Cancer - Things are moving forward. What does success mean to you? What does it look like? What are you holding on to that you no longer need, or which no longer works?
Leo - Let your light shine! This is a time of renewal, strength, and powerful movement into your future, so get yourself in motion. Don't worry about who's applauding, or not.
Virgo - As with Gemini, with the added benefit of new beginnings offering concrete forms to regenerate your power and vitality. Worries and oppositions are mostly over.
Libra - Hang in there, put your best foot forward, stay conscious of ultimate ends, and refuse petty or petulant behaviors that only create imbalances. Oppositions teach self-sufficiency.
Scorpio - You can attain influence (or attract notice), so make sure it's the kind you want. Get a bigger view, and learn not to take anything personally this month. Work hard, with vision.
Sagittarius - Though you may be opposed this month, you're learning how to sail against the wind to make progress. Get inspired, and be clear about what strengthens your heart.
Capricorn - Figure out if you're the problem or the solution to the problem. Still on the horns of a dilemma, you get movement this month. Glimpse how you can make a larger contribution.
Aquarius - Things develop quickly in the next few weeks, so ride the feelings as you realize an ambition. Still, was your success worth its cost? Drop unnecessary considerations.
Pisces - Stay balanced as things quickly develop. This shows you the assets and resources you can draw on during the next year. Use your dreamtime constructively.
