Global Astrology in June-July 2005 - Mercury and Venus conjunctions and retrogrades

An important event occurs today with the Mercury conjunction with Venus, showing that we can now receive new ideas, perceptions, or interpretations on Venusian things and areas of our lives. It could be a communication from a friend about something romantic or financial, or whatever Venus rules in their charts. This is a time to see a pathway to pleasurable things, or things of value, material and nonmaterial. It is an aspect of shifts in experience yielding rewards and fulfillment.

It is a time when we can get information about our vanities, or our sense of what is beautiful and/or valuable. We can capture ideas about what we like and love with this aspect. When Mercury and Venus conjunct it brings mind and beauty together in some form, and whether Mercury or Venus is moving faster determines whether we get an idea of Venus, or a Venusian impression about Mercury. In any case, they do a dance of frequent conjunctions, each of which sets the tone for the period until the next one. And when one overtakes the other followed by a reverse action, it shows that what is known is intimately linked with seeing what occurs or returns as related.

Previous Mercury-Venus conjunctions occurred last December 28 when Venus overtook Mercury at 16 Sagittarius, followed by the Mercury "direct" conjunction on Jan 13 2005 at 6 Capricorn. Venus again overtook Mercury in an "inferior" conjunction on March 29 at 9 Aries. The conjunction today is Mercury in the "superior," or direct conjunction with Venus at 30 Cancer. Venus will overtake Mercury again on July 9 at 14 Leo. These two will not conjunct after that until Jan 17, 2006, with Venus retrograde at 22 Capricorn. As you can see, the frequency of the conjunction is directly tied to how the Mercury retrograde cycle interacts with the Venus retrograde cycle, but that's another article.

As it is, this conjunction also occurs with Saturn at the last degree of Cancer. This means we have "fused" the Mercury, Venus, and Saturn ruled areas of our lives, shown by the conjunction of these three planets in Cancer, setting a new year cycle into motion for both Mercury and Venus. The next time it will happen in Leo, and whole different energetic. The present Cancer year cycle for these inner planets shows that we have all decided to move into a search for significance, what will nourish and nuture our evolved sense of self. It blends the planets and houses of Taurus, Gemini, Virgo, Libra, Capricorn, and Aquarius through the lens of Cancer. By this time next year all our ideas, values, relationships, sense of service, work, goals, ambitions, friendships, purpose, and life direction will have been influenced by how we respond to this awakened Cancer energy in our lives.

One last thing. When Mercury and Venus enter Leo tonight (July 28 most places east of PDT) it should show as a shift in the energies in your Taurus, Gemini, Virgo, and Libra planets from Cancer to Leo, from Water to Fire, from Activating to Stabilizing, from introverted to extroverted. It's a time to search for how you can enjoy life in an enhanced manner, or express yourself more creatively. Leo is how we feel we are connected to our most natural heartfelt self-expression. This is the time to go for it. The Grand Fire Trine is already beginning to manifest!
