Plan to attend the RT Communications Customer Appreciation BBQ located at the Washakie County Court House Lawn, 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Join the Shoshone Indian Tribe tonight at the Memorial for a Tribal Ceremony of Drums, Dances, Cedar Prayers and Blessings. This Ceremony will start at 7:30 p.m. and anyone can participate in prayers and blessings. The Shoshone and Arapaho Tribe’s lost many of it’s people during the Vietnam War. This Memorial is close to their hearts.
I have looked forward all week to the Torchlight Walk but was not able to attend due to an unexpected duty last night. My plan was to meet Buffy Derrick at Pioneer Square then the two of us would participate in this activity. This morning I spoke to Buffy to hear about the experience. This is what she said.
“As I got to Pioneer Square the sun was just beginning to set. I thought about how long it had been since the War, thirty years. Then I imagined myself being in Vietnam at dusk during that time period and I began to feel as though I was surrounded by soldiers. As we began to walk up 10th Street they, the soldiers, were walking with us. All our little candles were quietly and reverently representing soldiers, past present and future. The sun was just about out of site. As we arrived at the Wall it was that time of day that photographers refer to as ‘magic light’. The Wall was casting its last shadows of the day as we gathered around the Memorial. We were again reminded of the bravery, commitment, honor and sacrifice soldiers and their families have made. We held up heartfelt prayers then started reading the names.”
I will not miss this experience tonight…
