Strep happensI used to brag about Dido's excellent general health. Only a couple of infant ear infections, very few courses of antibiotics; except for the flu season of 2003, which felled us all at Thanksgiving with a flu so horrible we all ceased functioning for about five days, we've had a run of great good fortune when it comes to communicable disease. Well, that seems to have all changed. Dido and I are each on our second course of antibiotics in a four week span. I thought, on Saturday, that I had caught his cold; by last night, when my throat was getting sorer, I finally gave up and called the OB on call; knowing that Dido had been exposed to strep (hence his amoxicillin regimen) I finally gave in to the fact that I must have it, too. Penicillin here I come...which the means the babe is nursing on a Louis Pasteur cocktail. She seems to have resisted it all; god bless breast milk. It's good for something besides endless episodes of public semi-nudity. Did I mention that I am a modest person, and that even so, I will whip it out in public without too many qualms, as the desperate newborn screams of hunger escalate? Such are the joys of motherhood. But there are other joys, too. One of these days, I'm going to get around to writing about the moment when I realized the Bambina was about to enter the world, and my husband kissed my forehead, and I felt my heart more full than it has ever been before. One of these days. 8:40:21 PM |
