Mission Statement

This blog was born out of growing frustration. As an avid political blog and news reader, I've felt it building for some while. The scandals, the secrecy, the policies. The arrogance. I've been frustrated with it all.

Somewhere around the Medicare cost coverup and the expanding Valerie Plame investigation, I snapped. I've had enough. Don't we deserve better? Don't we deserve an administration that will be honest? Don't we deserve an administration that will respond to criticism with measured analysis as opposed to ad hominem attacks? Don't we deserve a government that isn't willing to sell our security for political gain?

Enough will serve as a place for me to write about politics, and more specifically to write about the abuses, the excesses, and the evils of the Republican Party and our despicable President. I'll maintain and regularly update my other blog, Hyperbole, but all political writing will shift to this location for the time being.

In general, my hope is to avoid the rant; however, I say that with a full understanding that some ranting is inevitable. My agenda will certainly be transparent, but I'm hoping to be as measured as possible as often as possible.

I don't have any delusions that I'm doing anything new here. Or anything essential to the cause. I can't imagine I'll ever be as good at this as the elite blogs that I see as some models for what I'd like to do--Talking Points Memo, Atrios, and Daily Kos. I'm a pale imitator, at best.

But, by way of self-justification, everything counts, doesn't it? If we lived in the US now, I'd be working for the Kerry campaign or a Senate campaign or for the DNC, volunteering to do whatever. But from Dubai it's difficult to really contribute, unless I offer money we don't have. So I'll try and write, to make a small contribution to increasing awareness of the travesties of the ruling party. Everything counts, I hope.

There are plenty of folks I know who are at least as articulate as I am, and who have plenty to say on this topic. If this is you, I want your contribution. In theory, I see Enough developing in the same vein as Daily Kos, with one central writer and a whole ton of contributors. Talk to me.

This is a pivotal election for the future of the United States. What do I fear? Four more years of Bush packing the federal courts with ideological extremists, quite probably including the Supreme Court. Four more years of budget-busting tax cuts. Four more years of dismantling bedrock environmental regulations. Four more years to destroy international goodwill toward the U.S. That's what I fear.

I've had enough. Haven't you?
