As artists, we know how important our surroundings are for tapping the creative flow. Maybe it's the "feng shui" of our workshop that helps us align our energies. (I always begin a creative job by cleaning up my studio. Is it attunement or simply procrastination? I'm never sure.)
Or maybe we go for that certain sense of quiet we feel will open us up to some kind of "muse."
My natural tendency is to think of these rituals as options that may or may not be useful for my distinctly nonmystical way of getting out the creative product. I think of it as the butt-in-the-chair strategy, described here in a journal entry from April when there wasn't a damn muse within a country mile of my studio...
