I have mixed feelings about the debate tonight. I want to be excited and see some real discussion of issues, but I'm pretty sure I'm just going to hear both candidates' stump speeches.
What I'd really like to see is Kerry turn this flip-flop thing around.
"I admit it. I'm a flip-flopper. but I think most of you out there are, too. And believe me, so is my opponent. Would you want it any other way? I listen to both sides of an issue and make my best judgement and vote accordingly, based on the best information I have at the time. If I later get new information, I reserve the right to change my mind, and to evolve with changing circumstances. Americans once thought slavery was all right. They later changed their minds. Were they flip-floppers? This country needs a leader who can see the situation under a new light and find a better solution. You won't get that from my opponent. He believes every decison he's made was the right one, and he's sticking to it. And with every passing day his stubbornness means more Americans die. I will change that, and if that means I'm a flip-flopper, then I'm a flip-flopper, and proud of it."
