Choosing a Mechanic

The brakes went out in my car a few weeks ago, so I took it down the street to the GB Garage, who was heavily advertised to be the best mechanic in town. They kept my car for a week, and when I went in to pick it up, not only were the brakes still broken, but now the headlights would not turn on, the engine made a ragged noise, and there was a big dent in the hood.

When I asked what went wrong I was told, "There's nothing wrong - it's just all part of repairing the brakes, which we are still working on. Besides, I did fix your broken wind shield wiper. That's pretty dangerous, you know."

Then he gave me a bill for the work done so far, which included the cost of repairing the brakes, the headlights, the engine, the wiper and the dent in the hood. I suggested that it might be better if I took my car to another mechanic.

"And who would that be?" GB asked.

"I'll take it across town to the JK Garage," I replied.

"You shoudn't do that," he said. "JK might say he can fix your car, but he really can't. He'll make it much worse." At that moment there was a loud clang behind him, and we both looked back to see my car's front right fender falling onto the floor.

"There you have it," said GB. "Proof that my repair job is working."
