My son asked for a cell phone for Christmas. My wife and I have each carried one for years, though she uses it more than I do. She can make use of time spent in the car by talking to her sister on the east coast. I'm generally close to a regular phone so I have little opportunity to need a cell phone. Our old phones don't know any tricks, though.
Our contract with Verizon is well-established, and they have a sale on, so we went to the store to look into an upgrade. We wound up adding Toby to our accoount, and for the sale cost of one handheld ($49) we came away with three of the most amazing devices I've ever seen. The VX6100 is a cell phone, but it also does text messaging. It has a built in camera that takes pictures like this, only better, usually - this one was in low light and could have benefitted from a solid rest --- taken about two minutes ago.
I used the phones email function to send it to myself, and when it arrived I loaded here. I can pick up email, too. There's also a little tiny web browser, for checking out headlines, and I can even use Google. There's a calculator, a calendar, a tip calculator for use at the restaurant, an alarm clock, and a scheduler. I've already downloaded a batch of ringtones (it now rings with Mozart's Turkish March), screen backgrounds, and a couple of games.
By the time I finish tricking Toby's out with a Futurama theme, he will be very happy on Christmas morning.
