The Big News

We had our ultrasound on Monday. You know - the big one. The one that checks out the little one's kidneys, heart, spinal cord, amniotic fluid, blood flow, facial features, and just about everything else.

And oh yeah. They check the gender.

So everything looks pretty good, as far as internal organs and all that goes. Mrs. B has something called placenta previa, which means her placenta is blocking the door. So to speak. It can be a problem, but 90% of the time, it rectifies itself naturally, so I'm trying not to worry. Mrs. B's doing enough worry right now for both of us. By the way, if anyone out there has any experience with the aforementioned condition, let me know.

But aside from that, everything looks fine and healthy and great. Legs are still kicking, and both little hands look good and fully formed. And yes, we did find out the sex.

Oh, did you want to know too?

It's a boy.

You can just call him Oliver.

We have a genuine ultrasound pic of the litlle man, with a huge (by comparison) arrow pointing to his um ... boyness. I might have to save this one for his high school years.

Fun for the Whole Family

The iPod has been nicknamed "Marv" - short for "the Marvelous Toy."

Mrs. Bluesky was quite pleased with the iPod during our drive down to Oregon. There's a dead spot for radio between Olympia and Vancouver, Washington. So I suggested we spark up Marv for some road tunes.

Thankfully, a few days earlier, my brother had presented me with three Beatles albums as an Xmas gift. I was smart enough to burn them onto Marv, and so it was Beatles all the way down to Oregon. And no, I didn't use an iTrip or any of them fancy plug-in devices. Mrs. B has a tape player in her car, so we just used an old-fashioned cassette converter to play it through the car speakers.

I am starting to hone in on the albums I really want to hear all the time. 15 Gb sounds like a lot, but it's a finite amount of room, and I want to make sure that I'm carrying around my real favorite music.

Here's a few eclectic snapshots of my favorite music:

Everything I own by Wilco
Ditto - R.E.M.
Ditto - Radiohead
Beatles - Revolver, Rubber Soul, Sgt. Pepper
Beth Orton - Daybreaker, Trailer Park
Call and Response - the first album
Hem - Rabbitsongs, Eveningland
Kid 606 vs. NWA - Straight Outta Compton (remix)
Everything But the Girl - Like the Deserts Miss the Rain (import)
DJ Dangermouse - the Grey Album
Uncle Tupelo - Anthology 89/93, Anodyne
