The Adventures of Marv Continued(being a very very very occasional update on my iPod music)I changed the settings on Marv so he wouldn't automatically sync with all of the music on my computer. I'm actually running out of memory on my Mac, so this way I can just drop mp3s onto the iPod without ripping them onto the computer first. (BTW - thanks to Filchyboy for hepping me to the lingo.) My latest additions to the collection: Miles Davis - In a Silent Way, Kind of Blue, Sketches of Spain John Coltrane - Bahia, My Favorite Things (I don't yet own A Love Supreme) Nortec Collective - The Tijuana Sessions, Vol. 1 Suba - São Paolo Confessions Suba was a brilliant and well-respected Brazilian producer who died in a fire in 1999, shortly after releasing this amazing solo album. After producing some of the modern classics of Brazilian music, including Tanto Tempo by Bebel Gilberto, he went to work on his first and only solo work. Confessions combines traditional Brazilian rhythms with electronic beats and atmospheres to replicate the rainforest/ultramodern feel of São Paolo itself. If you're into world music or Brazilian music at all, check out this album. 7:50:42 PM |

I'm snowblind, snowblind, snowblind! No, just kidding. But everyone's going crazy because they thought it would snow in Seattle today. People were cancelling meetings in anticipation of bad weather. I heard someone in a cafe talking about a snow day like he was in 4th grade. Seattle is a place where 1/4" of snow can cause traffic jams and panic in the streets. Seattle doesn't often get snow, and when it does, drivers get even stupider than their usual levels. I've driven in snow. It's not really hard - just be careful, leave lots of room for stopping, and turn gradually. Not very hard. But drivers around here tend to drive faster and stupider, almost as if they're trying to get home as fast as possible to cut down their drive times. It's a good theory, until you end up in a ditch. So the big shockeroo this morning - no snow!! At least not yet. There's snow in Bellingham (120 miles north) and in southeast King County (at least 60 miles away), but the streets here are bare and dry. The news stations have dutifully dispatched reporters north and south, so they can deliver "breaking news" updates of flakes falling on their heads. So no snow day today. Our entire city is disappointed. How are they going to return all of those sleds and snowshoes they bought? 7:16:08 AM |
